The drive from the main road is stunning: narrow, twisty and with wide sensational views at every turn; you are in the quietest valley but still at 1,200 feet.

The Barn, with its large open plan living space, light filled from numerous picture windows, gives unbroken breathtaking  views in all directions. A great feeling of living in and being part of the landscape.

The kitchen is big beamed and Aga-simmered, with wooden cupboards and plenty of all you need; a squishy sofa at one side to an overflowing bookcase ensures whoever cooks will have company.

The original range is now a log burner in the long sitting room with contemporary sofa and dark red walls, with contemporary sofas surrounded by warm Tuscan terracotta coloured walls.

Both bedrooms oozing character and warmth, with heart-wrenching views from the master bedroom.

Sitting Room: The impressive fireplace dominates the open plan sitting area. The mantlepiece is made from an old stone gate stoop retaining the heat from the 12 kw wood burner.

Central heating throughout. The sitting room and dining area dates back to the 17th century, it oozes character, charm and warmth.

Kitchen: Large homely kitchen, the heart of the cottage with a squishy sofa at one end and 600 books, refectory table and Aga with stunning views to the head of the valley and on up towards Stybarrow Dodd, guarantees cook will always have company.

The dining table designed and made by the owner in the shape of the Yin and Yang symbol, likewise a kitchen table made of oak as a traditional butchers block. 

Fitted with all mod cons, fridge, washing machine and electric cooker.

Sun Room: Open the door from the sitting room and enter an inside/outside world with views to the head of the  valley, and onto Birkett Fell and the Dodds, and  if the legs are tired then take a walk with the eyes!
